Thang is a small village near Turtuk village located in Leh District of Ladakh, India. Their local language is Balti with a population of around 1200. We got an opportunity to visit the last village of India-Pakistan border from where the LOC with Pakistan is just 2.2 KM away. This village is ahead of the last Indian army post so no civilian is permitted there other than the village residents. If we talk about history, Initially Thang village was the part of India but after the India-Pakistan partition, it comes under Pakistan under the Baltistan region but later on thanks to Indian Army, during 1971 Kargil war, India took back the Thang village under their border.
We are lucky to get binoculars from Army personnel to look at India and Pakistan post placed in the mountain. There were two colours of binoculars i.e Red and Blue. Red colour binoculars used to keep an eye on the Pakistan post whereas the Blue colour binoculars used to keep an eye on the Indian post. We interacted with local village people. They were very good and love the Indian army and having huge respect for them.
We went with local guide helps them in earning in order to run their family. We have seen many unknown places and get to know about the facts which would have been not possible without the guide. We have seen natural refrigerators called as cold storage made up of stones which we initially thought it is shelters. In this natural refrigerators, local village people store their foods and vegetables in which cold air doesn’t comes out.
