The term is coined as “Michchami Dukkadam” (मिच्छामि दुक्कडम्), also written as michchha mi dukkadam, which means I seek forgiveness with an intent to cleanse my soul and look forward to happier & healthier relationship & bonding with you, eternally.
While it is a ritual as per the Jainism way of life, I personally am touched with the beautiful concept behind it.
You and I live in a social environment; and that results in a lot of communication and interaction between us through different mediums.
My current existence, being imperfect, might have caused hurt or ding in your heart, mind and soul since the time we have known each other. Many a times, I wouldn’t have realized it and at times, upon realisation, I would have failed to apologise. Ideally, the apology and mending should happen there and then but again, my naïve existence which is full of ego and vices wouldn’t have let that occur.
Nevertheless, here is an opportunity of introspection that surfaces once a year as per Jainism. It is Today.
Examining thoroughly – Very humbly, I would like to seek forgiveness from you from the depths of my heart, mind and soul thereby making a gentle request of accepting my apology and a having a hope that you will forgive me from your side.
