What is Tomato Flu?

The New viral infection which has broken out in India in May, 2022 called as Tomato Flu. After Coronavirus and Monkey Pox, Peoples are now fearing of Tomato Flu. This virus can spread through saliva or fluid from the blisters on the skin. This infectious disease is targeting majorly children under five years.

The name of Tomato flu is originated because of red rashes and blisters. The Flu will cause similar to how tomato looks. It is contagious, self limiting disease and there is no medicine available to treat this. The similar to this was recently found so named as Hand Foot Mouth disease.

Symptoms of Tomato Flu:

  1. Tomato like red blisters
  2. High Fever
  3. Rashes
  4. Bodyache
  5. Swelling in the joint
  6. Dehydration
  7. Lethargic
  8. Diarrhoea

Prevention of Tomato Flu:

  1. The best way is to stop children to go outside and going to schools because this flu can affect other children also.
  2. Maintaining good hygiene. Keep your surrounding neat and clean and regularly sanitise.
  3. Scratching or itching on the rashes and blisters should be avoided.
  4. Warm showers should be given to the infected children.

Treatment of Tomato Flu:

There is no specific treatment. Treatment is aimed at fever control and lotions for the rashes. However, your doctor may recommend certain treatments to ease symptoms until the disease has run its incubation period. These can include:

  • Syrup Calpol-200 5ml SOS for Fever.
  • Calosoft-AF Lotion for blisters/rashes.
  • Phenergan Syrup 4ml for running nose, itching and rashes.
